An inverter keeps your fans, lights and electronics running through a power cut. Buying the right one is mostly about two questions: how much it can run, and how clean its output is. Here's a practical guide.
First, size it correctly

Pure sine wave vs modified/square wave
This is the most important quality choice:

For a modern home with a TV, computer, fridge and chargers, pure sine wave is the safer choice. Modified/square wave is cheaper and fine for basic fans-and-lights loads, but can stress sensitive devices.
Battery compatibility
- Confirm the inverter supports your battery type — tubular lead-acid or lithium. Many newer inverters are lithium-compatible; older ones may not charge lithium correctly.
- Match the inverter's system voltage (12V/24V/48V) to the number of batteries you'll use.

Features worth having

- Fast, safe changeover so lights don't flicker on a cut.
- A display/indicators for charge, load and faults.
- Smart/multi-stage charging that's gentle on the battery (extends its life).
- Bypass and good ventilation/build quality.
Warranty and service
Check the warranty on the inverter (and separately on the battery — batteries wear out first). Prefer a brand with local service availability.
